Prison Ministry

Calvary Baptist Church believes that God’s instructions in scripture are specific and require action. Each Sunday afternoon, trained volunteers from Calvary visit the Florence County Detention Center for group Bible studies in seven of the facility’s housing units. Church members meet with inmates in small conference rooms and share the gospel of Jesus Christ. Many inmates enter the conference room looking for someone to listen and care about their current predicament. They quickly share significant facts and events from their lives. Many come right out and ask, “Will you pray for me?” Our volunteers are blessed weekly by being allowed to spell out the plan of salvation in its simplicity! Inmate reactions vary greatly, but God’s power is always witnessed. Decisions for Christ are made regularly with some inmates kneeling on the tile floor and clutching hands as they pray to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
